Walking Wounded & Lost Weekend NYC IN PRINT
One stop shop

The concept of one-stop shopping is not new, but it is certainly having a moment among menswear retailers. Opening a retail space that sells men’s apparel as well as a variety of non-apparel items like books, grooming products, beer, bicycles—anything that accompanies the customer’s lifestyle—is becoming increasingly popular. We recently wrote about the concept executed by Standard Goods in L.A. (read it here) Lost Weekend, a new store in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, does it a little different: their core business is coffee, but men’s product isn’t too far behind.
Michael Little and Chad Eggers opened Lost Weekend in October 2011, brewing Blue Bottle coffee, an organic micro roast from San Francisco. However, customers are coming in for more than their morning buzz. Lost Weekend stocks products that fit both the consumer’s lifestyle and the shop’s modern, minimalistic aesthetic: T-shirts, hoodies and board shorts from Saltbox USA, grooming products by Malin + Goetz, bags from D’emploi and key rings from Walking Wounded. The initial offering is small, but they have immediate plans to grow it by bringing in button-downs and khakis from Atelier Solarshop (a Scandinavian brand that uses repurposed Army supplies), belts and jewelry from Cause & Effect, and Lost Weekend branded product (they currently sell Lost Weekend tote bags). Little explains, “We want to bring things to the Lower East Side that aren’t here yet or that he can only get from us. We want guys to come in and grab a cup of coffee and pick up a pair of board shorts before he heads out to Montauk for the weekend.”
However, Lost Weekend is not just a place for guys to grab coffee and go: the shop acts as an event/gallery space where customers can hang out at the communal tables during the day or attend cool events at night. Past events have included product launches, benefits for local charities like the Lower East Side Girls Club and opening night receptions for featured work in the gallery space. Currently on display is Surf by Michael Halsband, a series of photographs “capturing surfing communities of Southern California, Hawaii and Australia.”

Walking Wounded: Waffle Molds & Training Wheels
I'm making coasters out of training wheels. Right now I'm working on making cup like imprints into epoxy to catch condensation as it comes off the glass. I hate it when glasses stick to the coaster, make it half way to my mouth and fall on the floor. I hope to remedy this along with any coaster slippage on table tops with these for wine bottles, carafes, and glasses.
In trying to make a stamp for the epoxy, I've been searching for something that looks like a waffle. So, I used a waffle. Photos of making molds from frozen waffles....
